9/11 Timeline

On September 11, 2001, many people went about there days as normal; after all, it was just another Tuesday in September. On that day 213 passengers and 33 crew members would board 4 different flights, heading to California; however, unbeknownst to them 19 hijackers would board these flights with them. Below are the four planes boarded by these hijackers with their departure time and place along with their intended arrival and eventual ending destination.

As shown by the chart above two different airlines where used, American and United. The flights boarded that day were all heading out west to California, with three out of the four flights heading for Los Angeles. None of these flights made it to there intended destinations as three out of the four flights hit their targeted buildings. The passengers of flight 93 were able to take back control of the plane and eventual crash land in Pennsylvania.

September 11, 2001 was a long day of uncertainty for everyone in the country. Below is the complete timeline of events.

7:59AM	American Airlines Flight 11	Departs from Boston Logan International airport and is on route to LA. On board are 5 hijackers and 87 passengers and crew
8:15 AM	United Airlines Flight 175	Departs from Boston and on route to LA, as well. On board are 5 hijackers and 60 passengers and crew.
8:19 AM	Flight 11	Betty Ann Ong, a flight attendant, reports to hijacking
8:20 AM	American Airlines Flight 77	Departs from Dulles International Airport, Dulles is a city in Virgina that sits on the outskirts of Washington DC. This plane is headed to LA. There are 5 hijackers and 59 passengers and crew on board.
8:24 AM	Flight 11	Mohamed Atta, one of the hijackers, accidentally alerts air controllers in Boston of the attack. Atta hit the wrong button as he intended to speak to only the passengers and crew aboard the plane
8:37 AM	Boston	Boston Air Traffic Controller alert the US Airforce North Eastern Defense Sector of the attack. Immediate action was taken and the Air national guard was mobilized
8:42 AM	United Airlines Flight 93	The last plane to leave. Departs from Newark Liberty International Airport in NJ. The flight was delayed due to routine ground traffic. On route to San Francisco. Four hijackers and forty passengers and crew are on board.
8:46 AM	Flight 11	Crashes into Floors 93-99 of the North Tower. Instantly killing all on board the plane and trapping everyone aboard floor 91.
8:50 AM	Florida	President George W. Bush is alerted that the North Tower was hit
8:55 AM	NYC	South Tower is declared secure
8:59 AM	NYC	Port Authority police orders and evacuation of both towers.
9:00 AM	NYC	An evacuation of the entire World Trade Center is ordered.
9:00 AM	Flight175	Flight attendant on board alerts air traffic control to a hijacking taking place on the flight
9:03 AM	Flight 175	Crashes into floors 77-85 of the South Tower, immediately killing all on board the flight.
9:05 AM	Flight 77	Barbar Olson, a passenger on board, contacts her husband, Theodor Olson who is the U.S. Solicitor General. Theodor Olson reports the hijacking to federal officials.
9:05 AM	Florida	President Bush is alerted about the second crash.
9:28 AM	Flight 93	Hijackers attack the plane.
9:25 AM	Florida	Bush addresses the nation for the first time
9:36 AM	Washington D.C.	Secrete Service Agents evacuate Vice President Dick Cheney to the Presidential Emergency Operation room, which is located below the White House.
9:37 AM	Flight 77	Crashes into the Pentagon. The Crash killed all who was on board the plane and 125 military and civilian personal inside the building.
9:45 AM		The FAA grounds all Civilian Aircraft. All aircraft in the air is ordered to land at the nearest airport
9:45 AM	Washington D.C.	US Capital Building and White House are evacuated.
9:55 AM	Florida	President Bush boards Air Force 1, and departs from Florida
9:59 AM	NYC	South Tower Collapses, killing 800 people in and around the building.
10:03AM	Flight 93	Crashes in a filed near Shanksville, PA. There are no survivors. The crash landing was done by the passengers and crew on board who regained the plane from the hijackers.
10:15 AM	Washington D.C	Pentagon outer ring collapses
10:18 AM		President Bush orders any non-grounded planes to be shot down. At the time they believed Flight 93 to still be air born.
10:28 AM	NYC	North Tower collapses, killing more than 1,600 people.
11:02 AM	NYC	NYC mayor, Rudy Giuliani orders lower Manhattan to be evacuated
12:30 PM	NYC	Fourteen survivors emerge from the North Tower stair well.
2:30 PM	NYC	Mayor Rudy Giuliani visits the fallen Twin Towers.
3:00 PM	Nebraska	Air Force 1 lands at Offutt Air Force Base. President Bush is immediately escorted into a secure bunker.
3:00 PM	NYC	Pasquale Buzzell is rescued from the rubble of the North Tower
4:30 PM	Nebraska	Air Force 1 leaves the base and heads to Washington D.C.
5:20 PM	NYC	Building 7 of the World Trade Center collapses, no deaths from this collapse.
8:30 PM	Washington D.C.	President Bush addresses the nation
10:30 PM	NYC	Rescuers locate two Port Authority Police officers in the debris of the World Trade Center They are injured but alive.
